Good Omens

Day 1- Things went almost as smoothly as could be expected. I thought I would sleep, but I ended up watched two movies (Enchanted and I Am Legend) and a bunch of sitcoms/cartoons (Family Guy and the Simpsons). I don't know what people did without TV to pass the time. The 6 hours went by pretty quick, although I Am Legend was surprisingly boring.

What is funny as hell is that there is a "social movement" (semi-strike) going on right now, so the suburban trains (think LIRR) were delayed or had switched tracks. A beautiful way to welcome me back to the city--it took me an hour longer to get into main Paris than usual.
I live in the most Parisian location ever...middle of the 7th, two blocks away from the Seine, and the Eiffel Tower is in my backyard...I can't believe how much I lucked out. Again, I'm not trying incite jealousy--I've lived on the edge of Paris and the "ghetto" and have gotten followed home at midnight by an African guy, so I deserve this bit of Parisian glamour!

The woman I'm staying with is Mexican--born in Mexico, I think, but has US citizenship, but one of her kids was born in France. I don't quite understand her life, but whatever. She seems nice enough, but speaks only English and Spanish--told me herself she rarely speaks French, and she's been here for 5 years straight. The area in which I live is so touristy, I've heard English and other languages more often than I've heard French...I don't quite feel as if I've really hit France yet. But the neighborhood it so great--it has an HSBC bank, my cellphone company (SFR), the railroad company (SNCF), my favorite grocery store (Franprix), and a couple of bars that would be great to check out one of these days--even a Starbucks (not that I would ever step inside one). I take all those conveniences as good omens.

The best part so far? The woman--let's call her Lisa--has two dogs living with her. Kiwi is one of the cutest dogs ever, and took to me quite readily, licking my toes, presenting her belly and all that jazz. Then I saw her humping the other dog, who is also a girl. Tell me why Lisa informed me that the dogs are bisexual. Crazy! I think that was the best omen of all.
